At UMass Dartmouth, we want to remind everyone that campus safety is a shared responsibility and remains a top priority of our Department.

While Electric scooters, e-bikes, and other micro-transportation devices provide a convenient way to get around, you must use, park, and charge them responsibly to protect our community.

Please follow these campus safety requirements:

  • Do not operate or charge e-scooters, e-bikes, electric skateboards, or similar devices inside University buildings, including residence halls.
  • Yield to pedestrians at all times. Use extra caution on walkways, at crosswalks and building entrances, and in other high-traffic areas.
  • Ride at a safe and appropriate speed. Stay alert to pedestrians, vehicles, and changing conditions around you.
  • Park responsibly. Devices may not block entrances, exits, stairwells, accessible routes, sidewalks, ramps, or other paths of travel.
  • Use only manufacturer-approved batteries and chargers. Damaged, modified, or incompatible batteries and charging equipment can create serious fire hazards.
  • Follow all posted signs and University directions regarding where devices may be operated, parked, stored, or charged.

These expectations are intended to reduce fire hazards, prevent collisions and injuries, and ensure that campus remains accessible to everyone.

The University is continuing to develop a comprehensive policy for bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, and other micro-transportation devices. Until additional guidance is issued, all members of the campus community are expected to operate and store these devices safely and comply with University requirements.

Thank you for helping keep UMass Dartmouth safe and accessible for everyone.
