Art + Design: Graphic Design

Tariro Mujaya portrait

Tariro Mujaya was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. She has received a Graphic Design diploma from the Zimbabwe Institute of Digital Arts (ZIVA) and a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She first discovered art in High School and later realized how powerful graphic techniques helped her express visual communication by using various media platforms.

My degree project focuses awareness on saving African Rhinos from extinction. Rhinos are endangered because their horns are believed to have medicinal benefits that can cure diseases like cancer, hangovers from heavy drinking, and drug usage. They are also engraved as ornaments for luxury items.

There is no evidence that Rhino horns have healing properties. Their horns contain keratin just like human toenails, fingernails, hairs, and tooth enamel—nothing more. Shockingly, Rhino’s horns are more valuable than gold. Rhinos are a crucial part of their ecosystem. Rhinos are grazers and feed on vegetation that helps shape the African landscape. One of Africa’s “Big Five”, popular with tourist, the animal helps the African economy. In a world without Rhinos—our environment and our economy will suffer.
