Cowles Ocean Modeling Research Group

Principal Investigator: Geoff Cowles <contact/web info>

The group's research is focused on the development and application of computational models to problems in the coastal ocean. Currently, they are actively working on GPU acceleration of an unstructured grid ocean model (FVCOM) and employment of block-structured mesh adaption in a coupled hydro-sediment morphodynamic studies. They employ these flow solvers in funded studies of larval dispersal and connectivity, the reactions of tidal flats to changes in sea level and sediment load, and the effects of marine renewable energy installations on sediment transport. The group's research has been supported by NSF, DOE, ONR, and NOAA. Please contact the PI directly for available opportunities.
