UMass Dartmouth offers two Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) preparation courses twice per year: Communications and Literacy Skills Test (test 01) and Foundations of Reading (test 190).
PRD 571 Communications and Literacy Skills (01)
The Communication and Literacy Skills test consists of two subtests: reading and writing. The reading subtest contains multiple-choice items and word meaning (vocabulary) items. The writing subtest contains four sections:
- written summary
- written composition
- grammar and usage
- written mechanics.
Areas covered include:
- comprehension and analysis of readings
- development of ideas in essay form on specific topics
- outlining and summarizing
- interpretation of tables and graphs
- mastery of vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics
No textbooks are required. Handouts and booklet will be provided.
