About Heather Kelly

Hi my name is Heather Kelly; I am a graduating senior of the Interior Architecture and Design program. I am passionate about creating safe and comfortable spaces for everyone, regardless of ability. People spend 90% of our time indoors, our spaces should promote wellbeing of the human body and environment as a whole.

Statement

Bayside Village is a 55+ senior living community, designed as my senior thesis. There is a focus on resident wellbeing and safety in the design. The Coronavirus pandemic that emerged in the United States in 2020 has changed the way research methods can be utilized, and it also changes the design intent of spaces. Senior citizens are among the most at risk for this illness. Senior living communities have to keep the residents safe in these unprecedented times. The active adult community will be able to host its residents in times of need, and in times of prosperity. This community will encourage social interaction and friendship among residents while also providing a safe space for the aging population.
