Art + Design: Interior Architecture + Design

About Jillian Skalski

My name is Jillian Skalski and I am an Interior Architecture and Design student. I originally transferred with the program from Mount Ida in 2018. Going to a small high school in New Jersey did not expose me to many programs relating to the major I chose. What did inspire me to choose this career path was my love of AutoCAD. After experiencing all interior design has to offer, I can truly say I have found my passion. I advocate highly for accessibility and inclusivity throughout the design process. I am currently studying to take the first part of the NCIDQ certification exam and hope to work in the residential industry turning clients design dreams into real life.

Statement

My senior year thesis project focuses on breaking the stigma towards mental health through inclusive design approaches. “Behind the Bloom” is located in Reno, Nevada which is the state that holds the highest prevalence of mental illness with the lowest access to care. The counseling center provides unique types of therapy such as culinary therapy, yoga/meditation therapy, and walk & talk therapy, as well as traditional one-on-one and group counseling. “Behind the Bloom” welcomes adolescents and young adults to a safe and welcoming environment to express themselves.
