About Yi-Hung Hsu

Yi-Hung Hsu was born and raised in Taichung, Taiwan. Her major is in animation and Game Design at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She has been influenced by both Japanese and U.S animation since her childhood. Yi-Hung is interested in trying new animation styles and learning new skills to make her animation more striking and intriguing. Something she particularly enjoys is creating the small details in shots, even if viewers don't notice the details explicitly.

Statement

My animation work is about the “Light at the Night” game, which tells of the Japanese- style hotel “Light” located in the Tiatong business district of Linsen North Road in Taipei in 1988. The protagonists of the story are Rose and Sue, the hotel mother (hotel Boss), who face entanglement due to loving the same man (the richest customers). One day, after a series of consecutive raining days, the cops found the body of a dead woman who was wearing red shoes in the mountain. The dead woman was identified as Sue and determined to be a murder. The cops wanted to find the true murderer and investigate the case.  The cops investigate the hotel mother and guests around them and uncover a feud the hotel mother had with some guests.

In my work process, I researched about Taiwanese culture, the year of 1988, characters customs, and design of characters and animation. My intent is to let everyone know about the history of 1988 in Taiwan and how its economy was raised. Also, I intend to break down the cultural biases and misconceptions surrounding the Asian community and for my work to serve as a reminder that everyone deserves respect, happiness, and love.
