About Collin Cabral

I’m a graphic designer with an emphasis on logo design and branding. Ever since I can remember I’ve had a fascination with the idea that a simple mark could represent the identity of something much greater. I also experiment with photography as well as printing merch for local businesses. Growing up in the small town of Westport, Massachusetts I have built close relationships that will carry on for a lifetime.

While I would say there were numerous moments throughout my life that lead me to where I am today, none had quite as big of an impact as Erika Hall. During my senior year of high school I was involved in a fatal car accident that changed my perspective on life forever. My friend Erika passed and left many behind who openly admired her free spirit and talent toward anything she put her mind to. She was an athlete, musician, artist, and honors student. After her passing I chose to follow my passion for art and design. I wanted to live free of fear and regret just as she had and decided that I would live my life in the pursuit of happiness and never settle for anything less. In time that happiness found me as I am now engaged to my lovely fiancée as well as the father to a beautiful baby girl.

Statement

The purpose of this project is to take existing professional sports organizations that currently use offensive/ racially insensitive elements, and propose potential rebranding opportunities that will better fit within today’s society.

The process of rebranding itself is heavily fan focused. Completely changing the identity of a team that many identify closely with can create controversy and lead to a defensive mindset. After researching similar teams and their approaches, I have found that progress will be achieved much easier if both sides are satisfied. I have explored multiple directions that may appease the fan bases referencing elements from prior names/logos, team history, geographical and architectural locations, and history based on city/state. This creates an immediate connection between the team and its fans allowing for a smoother transition.
