Artist Statement

My art tends to take the form of character design and concept art. Usually, my characters are humanoid fantasy creatures, but I enjoy drawing humans as well. A recent project that I have been working on focuses on a family of farmers who are part human and part griffin, a race called the Gricaeri. Their skin can range from shades of blue to purple, with the body of a human, cat-like feet, and long, pointed, feathery ears. One character from the family that I have designed is Rhio. She is a middle child, and the only daughter in a family of boys. Character design is something that I love doing because it allows me to dive deep into a character’s personality and bring it to life. While this project was done in 2D digital drawing, I have also worked with Maya to create 3D sculptures. One such project I did was a statue of a woman holding her baby and protecting him with a spear. I had to go through the process of building up the body from a simple sphere into an A-pose, and then shaping it into the attack position. The hardest part was getting the windswept hair to work correctly, but in the end I was very happy with how it came out. My style of artwork when it comes to drawing tends to lean more on the realistic side of cartoony. My characters tend to be more proportionally accurate, and less exaggerated. They are also drawn in lineart, with color and shading. When it comes to shading, I build up the colors and use colors that are very close to each other to make a gradient, rather than blending them together. Overall, I am passionate and dedicated to my work, and I strive to always finish my projects in top quality.
