About Jace Gesmondi
Jace Gesmondi is an illustrator based in Johnston, Rhode Island. Mostly self-taught, he first formally studied art at the Community College of Rhode Island before transferring to UMass Dartmouth, where he will earn a BFA in illustration in 2024. Inspired by art and literature in the realms of fantasy, science fiction, and horror, his work deals largely in the macabre, exploring violence, alienation, and the threat of nihilism.
Statement
For my senior project, I have written and produced a short comic to explore the medium and test my abilities as a visual storyteller. All content was sketched and developed digitally, before being rendered traditionally with pen and ink. The comic follows an old warrior who wanders a treacherous, war-ravaged landscape after mysteriously abandoning his cause in favor of a new religion that is all his own. It is a story of betrayal and madness, of violence done senselessly, or perhaps with grave purpose.
