About Liz Trull

Liz Trull is a graphic designer, a visual communicator, and happy to be here. Liz will be a part of the Class of 2024, graduating with a degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Art History. She is based on the South Shore of Massachusetts, looking to bring her career north into Boston. For Liz, becoming a designer has been the goal for nearly 10 years, meaning her work has grown up alongside her. She has sharpened her skills and cultivated her artistic vision throughout her time at UMass Dartmouth, with the support of her professors and peers. Whether conceptualizing branding solutions or designing marketing materials, Liz approaches each project by prioritizing how the audience will engage with her designs.  

Statement

The food service industry is riddled with original customer experiences; some great, some less-than-ideal. Typically, restaurants prioritize the “customer is always right,” principle over the well-being of their employees. Ideologies such as this, can lead to hot-headed customers abusing company policies and treating food service workers as less-than. I have been a part of the food-service industry since I met the age requirement to work. Enduring consistent abuse by customers in the industry took a great toll on my psyche at a young age. It felt personal, and all I could do was be kind for the sake of customer service. But what if I could’ve been giving it right back to them?

Cheap Shot is a conceptual restaurant, centered around a ‘get what you give’ experience. Give kind, get kind. Give sass, get sass. For this thesis project, brand identity and assets are used to extend a comical element to set the tone of the establishment. Geared towards the New England crowd, the identity emulates a blunt collage style, with no time for sweet talk. Multiple cheeky characters take over to enhance personality and brand recognition. This project features a mock celebrity campaign which highlights Noah Kahan, a folk musician with an album highlighting growing up in New England; the ideal sponsor for Cheap Shot.
