About Owen Snyder
Owen Snyder is a digital artist with experience in 3D modeling and environmental design. His illustrations explore distant worlds through landscape painting and the imagining of alien flora and fauna.
Statement
The planet Sentinel is a distant earth-like world inhabited by countless species living in its many diverse ecological habitats. My Capstone project brings us to this world through the eyes of a journalist documenting the various lifeforms and environments. Behind each piece of artwork there is a story told in detail in a science fiction novel I have been writing. By hinting at a larger world and story, I aim to produce curiosity and intrigue. My work is inspired by the imaginative art of Ralph McQuarrie, Moebius, and Simon Stalenhag, as well as the cover art from my father's vast collection of 1960’s-1970’s science fiction novels. The story behind this project was inspired by books such as Heart of Darkness and River of the Gods, in which late 1800's-era expeditions chart and document unknown lands.
