About CJ Proulx
CJ Proulx is an illustrator and cartoonist from Grafton, MA. CJ works with digital media and traditional mixed media. Their work is inspired by independent comics and their personal experiences as a lesbian. CJ enjoys mascot horror, shoujo anime and manga, as well as playing rugby and ice hockey.
Statement
K9-Uni is a comic series that focuses on real-life interpersonal dynamics with an understanding of the importance of queer representation in media. K9-Uni is meant to be a comic people can relate to. Many of the scenes and character dynamics are modeled after my own experiences.
The cast were designed to intentionally represent different dog breeds from a variety of the American Kennel Club groupings combined with inspiration from alternative fashion trends. The characters are all named after my family dogs as well as foster dogs. Combining my love for dogs, unique fashions, and the queer experience brought this project to life.
