Art + Design: Graphic Design

About Sara Martins

Sara, originally from Southern Massachusetts, attended Diman Regional High School before furthering her education at Bristol Community College, where she earned an associate's degree in Graphic Design along with a Web Certificate. She then transferred to UMass Dartmouth, where she is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. Sara brings a diverse skill set to her work, with extensive experience in mural design and painting, in addition to her expertise in web design. In her free time, she works as a freelance graphic designer, creating custom websites, eye-catching advertisements, and vibrant illustrations. As the Project Director at YEAH! Corps, Sara guides teens through the entire mural creation process, everything from conceptual design and detailed planning to on-site execution. Sara’s background in layout design allows her to bring each mural to life while encouraging creativity and fostering teamwork within the community. This unique combination of hands-on collaboration and design expertise enables me to create visually impactful art while nurturing the next generation of artists.

Statement

I am a multidisciplinary artist earning a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, deeply passionate about mural design and painting.

In addition to large-scale murals and collaborative projects, I have a deep love for the tactile, hands-on aspects of craft. I immerse myself in oil painting on canvas and continually explore new techniques in art and design. I also find joy in printmaking and the meditative process of sewing. Each medium allows me to explore the endless possibilities of texture, shape, and color. I am particularly fascinated by color theory—how a simple shift in hue can completely transform the mood of a piece or how unexpected color combinations can create visual excitement. These smaller, experimental projects fuel my larger works, keeping my creative practice dynamic, spontaneous, and ever-evolving. My interests span a wide range of mediums, including layout design, photography, and video editing, where I use tools like Photoshop to transform creative ideas into reality. For my capstone project, I chose to create a branding campaign for a movie, giving me the chance to explore and experiment with Photoshop, photography, and layout design to create advertisements. My goal is to develop a unified brand that tells a compelling story through color and typography, capturing the film's essence. One of my biggest challenges is creating a product that appeals to a broad audience, ensuring the branding resonates with everyone while still staying true to the movie’s identity. This project allows me to refine my skills and bring my creative vision to life.

I am always eager to learn and am driven to one day pursue a career in the advertising and marketing industries, whether through product design, branding campaigns, or creative strategy.
