Art + Design: Interior Architecture + Design
About Siena Moniz
Siena Moniz is a graduating senior in the Interior Architecture and Design program at UMass Dartmouth. Her design style can be described as thoughtful, detailed, and maximalist – shaped by her love of historic architecture and connection to her culture. She is drawn to spaces that feel emotional and expressive, using materiality and atmosphere to tell a story. Outside of interior design, she explores fashion, beauty, and social media as other avenues for creative self-expression.
Statement
My thesis reimagines a historic royal property, Quinta do Relógio, located in Paço de Arcos, Portugal, into a boutique hotel and restaurant. This project explores the adaptive reuse of historic architecture to support cultural tourism, sustainability, and meaningful storytelling. Within this space, guests are invited to experience the history of the main palace and Portuguese culture through the lens of the country’s traditional filigree (filigrana)—while feeling as though they are royalty themselves. This project is also a personal journey, allowing me to deepen my connection to my heritage while learning about design practices and building standards in Portugal.
