About Audrey deSousa

Audrey deSousa is a photographer based out of Southern Massachusetts. She received her B.F.A in Photography at UMass Dartmouth in 2026. Her body of work contains a plethora of different subjects and types of photography, from botanical and landscape photography to portraitures and environmental. She strives to use art to connect others together and help others connect to themselves. Her senior thesis, titled To Mend a Harmed Heart, shows her personal healing journey throughout her breakup, through processing the experience through photography.

Statement

Breakups are a universal experience. The raw emotions, the way it changes the way one thinks, the fluctuation between numbness and feeling everything, all of this can be overwhelming at times.  

This diaristic project has manifested from my own experience. I am currently going through my own breakup, and my goal is to capture this while still going through it. Processing it while simultaneously photographing somehow helps me process this better internally. 

I want to use this to document someone's healing journey, to show others alongside myself that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, that it does get better even though one may not see the progress being made, it's still there. 

The work consists of archival ink-jet prints and a color photo book.
