Abou Brittney Riley

Born with a hunger for creativity, Brittney Riley is an illustrator with a Graphic Design minor. She is interested in Art Nouveau, the quality of vintage picture books, advertising illustrations, and brand design. Working with a range of media such as silkscreen, mixed media, and digital vectors, she enjoys exploring different forms of visual communication.

Statement 

I have always been interested in storytelling. Storybooks from my childhood like Froggy Went a Courting, One Fine Day, and The Berenstain Bears have heavily influenced my writing and art style. Writing and illustrating a children’s book is a way to reconnect with a younger version of myself. It has been therapeutic to study other media as I planned the storyline. I mimicked the watercolor style with specific digital brushes and a limited color palette.

My Book, A Rat’s Tale, is about a rat who falls in love with a music box. When a storm destroys his newfound love, the rat is overcome with grief. Perhaps he can find solace elsewhere, and maybe even find a deeper love.
