Statement
Throughout my life, I have been inspired by video games, shows, and movies that follow characters on long journeys that change them over time. The idea of studying that process has always fascinated me. Much of this passion comes from escaping into other worlds and imagining myself in the characters’ place. Seeing the wide variety of characters that exist inspired me to create my own world for them to live in.
I was especially inspired by fighting games, where each character has their own story told through arcade modes, showing their personality, motivations, and growth across different games. Because of this, I wanted to place my own characters into similar roles while combining both animation and game art. For my capstone, I chose eight of my original characters and animated them in idle poses as if they were part of a fighting game roster.
This project focuses on subtle movement and silhouette, exploring how small motions can show personality even when a character is standing still. I wanted the poses to reveal who the characters are outside of battle, using movement to express identity and attitude. My goal is to inspire others to create their own characters and stories, just as I was inspired when I was younger to imagine worlds of my own.
