About Fiona Quinn

My name is Fiona Quinn, I am a character designer, illustrator, and animator, wrapping up my senior year with a B.F.A in Animation + Game Arts. The art of animation is a love that has followed me my whole life, from curling up in a blanket in my childhood home watching my favorite Disney classic, to now watching new indie studios with their own creations that are free to watch on YouTube, I feel nothing short of awestruck for the passion I find behind each form of animation.

I find most of my inspiration in what I create from the various TTRPG campaigns I play in, predominantly Dungeons & Dragons. I love writing, it’s a huge creative outlet for me to scratch that character design itch, and though I’m not necessarily the world-builder, still creating these scenes and bringing these concepts to life is something I hold very dear. These friendships I have made, and shared moments in the game have changed me for good, I would not be the same person in terms of skill or personality without this creative outlet.

Statement

Charon Is Out is a short 2D animated comedy that explores the idea of Charon, the ancient, overworked, overtired Greek ferryman of the dead, taking an impromptu vacation day to wind down and self soothe- unfortunate timing, as unbeknownst to him, a war has begun to brew on the surface, tripling the usual bodycount for the day. With hundreds of impatient shades awaiting passage to their final destination, and the only qualified man M.I.A., what is there to do other than get Big Boss Hades involved in stopping Charon’s tomfoolery?

Greek Myth is an interest that has been a special interest of mine since childhood. When I was young all I’d read were illustrated, abbreviated Greek Myths, that still take up my entire bookshelf in my childhood bedroom today. Once I had aged out of young-children picture books, I switched to traditional books that were fully dedicated to Greek Myth, and I could never get enough. This continued to shine through in my other interests, video games such as Hades or Stray Gods, musical theatre such as Hadestown, I cannot recall a time in my life where I was not fascinated by Greek Myth.

I have always loved to make people smile, I am always cracking jokes and do my best to spread my joy to others with my work and personality. I chose to blend these two extremely prominent elements of myself, an Ancient Greek Comedy. This film is meant to be lighthearted, and a bit silly on purpose, but in the end it’s a love letter to that funny little girl curled up with a good book, with finally an outlet to express that interest in an art medium I truly love.
