Statement
I truly enjoy typography and the role that it plays in my work as a graphic designer. Impactful type is one of my biggest influences when it comes to the kind of work I like to make, and I think it’s one of the most important factors in any informational or promotional material. For my capstone project, I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of type design and the process involved in creating a custom font. Holy Mackerel is a gothic serif display font designed digitally and inspired by blackletter fonts, religious architecture, and stained-glass windows.
A full alphabet of capital and small-cap characters in both regular and italic styles, it was intended for decorative use at a large scale. With a newfound passion for type design, I will be looking into future opportunities to further pursue a career in the industry.
