Art + Design BFA: Animation + Game Arts
About Zuri Walters
Zuri Walters is a multimedia artist focused on creating work that is more than meets the eye. As an Animation + Game Arts major with a minor in Sculpture, her work ranges from digital and traditional media to physical, sculpture-based art. Zuri’s passion for art began in childhood, inspired by her older sister, who is also a skilled artist.
Currently, she draws inspiration from lived experiences as well as dreams, many of which she records in a dream journal. These ideas influence the artwork she creates today. With a focus on themes of self-discovery and embracing one’s inner child, her goal is to tell stories through fantasy-based art and explore how those stories can help viewers reflect on their own experiences.
Statement
The story of Jam Land explores themes of societal expectations and what it means to be a child. Before we are even born, many things are expected of us. We are expected to carry a legacy and to assimilate into a society that we have no choice but to be part of. A child has very little autonomy, and that lack of control begins the moment we become more than a thought.
In this story-based game, the player takes the role of a newborn exploring a strange world where a society of babies is forced into a continuous cycle of labor in a never-ending strawberry patch. Along the journey, the player uncovers the origins of this world, interacts with neighbors, and performs the duties expected of a new member of this unusual society.
