Statement

For my senior capstone project, I explored the benefits of buying second-hand and how it can be not only beneficial to your wallet but for the environment as well. Buying second hand, or in other terms “thrifting” is not only sustainable but is also an opportunity to bring creativity and uniqueness into one’s wardrobe. My focus is to influence people who are unaware of the sustainable and afordable benefits of thrifting. This project’s purpose is to help break the stigma that surrounds buying second-hand and inspire my audience to go out there and thrift.

Within our fashion industry, for every garment purchased second-hand means one less produced. Additionally, buying second-hand aids in water preservation, lowers your carbon foot-print, decreases landfill waste, and prevents wastage of energy and resources on the production of new clothes. I’ve created a physical and virtual guide to access inspiration as well as helpful tips for buying second-hand.

Within my guide, I communicate with bold statements and corky illustrations to inspire my audience to consider thrift shopping instead of only relying on fast-fashion.
