SUMMARY

This is a position with frontline exposure with Industry leaders and Quality Assurance staff of our key clients, our IQS Regional Sales Directors and the VP Marketing. The position involves technical consulting and business development in the Textile, Apparel and Accessories segments. Employing the candidate¡¯s technical expertise and industry experience, the Specialist will represent the SGS global quality assurance services to established and prospective clients at Standards meetings and conferences, and support the SGS sales team and the textile laboratory based in Fairfield, NJ. and worldwide.

 

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR TEXTILE EXPERT IN THE USA  

 

Degree holder in Textile Technology, Textile Engineering or Textile Chemistry with around 2-5 years experience of textile testing, preferably in fabric and garment testing.

 

Experience in a commercial textile testing laboratory would be an advantage. 

 

Needs to be familiar with AATCC/ASTM textile test methods and to have a good knowledge of the US Federal Regulations covering flammability, fiber content and care labeling. Knowledge of Canadian Regulations is a plus.

 

Should be able to prepare fabric/garment construction and performance specifications as typically used by North American retailers.

 

Needs to be capable to offer technical assistance to North American clients in solving problems that may arise from fabric/garments failing technical requirements. From both a corrective action and a risk analysis point of view. 

 

Must also be able to offer technical assistance to SGS Labs in the Far East.    

 

Should have some knowledge of textile testing equipment and testing consumables, their specifications and sources.

 

Presently be a member, have experience of, or willing to be a member, of AATCC/ASTM technical committees on textile testing methods.

 

Willingness to travel for standards meetings, sales visits and trade shows is necessary.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Degree holder in Textile Technology, Textile Engineering or Textile Chemistry with around 2-5 years experience of textile testing, preferably in fabric and garment testing.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Good written and spoken English skills are required.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business correspondence, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, letters, quotations, presentations, etc.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and/or groups. Written and oral knowledge of a second language is a plus.

 

COMPUTER & MATH SKILLS

Windows-based computer programs including MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Lotus Notes, Goldmine, etc.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and to create and interpret graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to work independently and apply common sense to all situations.
