Art + Design: Graphic Design

About Olivia Buckley

Olivia Buckley is a senior about to graduate with her BFA in Graphic Design from UMD. Her love of art sprouted when she was quite young, always doodling and playing around with Microsoft Publisher and the WordArt palette. This love would only grow when she enrolled at South Shore Technical High School and was a part of the Graphic Communications shop for four years. There, she learned the fundamentals of the graphic design industry including the Adobe CS6 and CC programs, typography, offset printing, silkscreen, and many other skills. From there, she decided to further her education and go to college, which allowed her to expand her portfolio. Olivia’s primary focus in the design world includes branding and identity design, package design, as well as website prototyping using Adobe XD.

Statement

I have designed a fashion and lifestyle magazine similar to Vogue or Glamour with one exception. The content is targeted towards plus-size women, and I chose the name Grandeur, which is defined as — “of utmost importance, especially when it comes to style or appearance.” The overall theme is summertime and loving your skin. The branding process for Grandeur included extensive studies of typography, color, page compositions, alternative content, and plus-size merchandise. My degree project consists of sample pages and reflects the overall style of a unique commercially relevant women’s fashion magazine.
