About Tony da Costa
Tony da Costa is a graphic designer and artist based in Massachusetts. He will graduate with a Bachelor of Fine arts in graphic design, with a minor in business administration. Tony has always had a passion for visual art. His love for graphic design began by noticing designs around town, to then taking graphic design classes in High School. Through his years at UMass Dartmouth, Tony has gravitated towards typography and layout design. He loves working with type and image together, which informs a large portion of his design. When not designing, Tony loves to create art in other forms, such as painting and playing music.
Statement
Essência New Bedford is an editorial piece, showcasing the Portuguese and Azorean culture in New Bedford. It offers a cultural insight to the city of New Bedford, and its connection to Portugal and the Azores. Written in both English and Portuguese, this piece will feature the city’s history, gastronomy, and art. Having lived in New Bedford my whole life, this project is centered around my background in the area, as well as my Portuguese ancestry. New Bedford is where my family is, and where most of my life has taken place, I wanted this piece to honor those years, and showcase the beauty of New Bedford as I see it to the rest of the world.
