Physics: laying the groundwork for tomorrow's innovations

The study of physics takes students into territory that is unique and inspiring.

Analysis. Exploration. Deeper understanding.

Students and faculty in UMass Dartmouth’s Department of Physics are dedicated to creating progress by exploring the physical world and uncovering nature’s mysteries. From sub-atomic particles to interstellar systems, from cosmic strings to black holes, from the deepest oceans to the fastest computers—the study of physics takes students into territory that is unique and inspiring.

At UMass Dartmouth, physics students engage in classroom learning and cutting-edge research with professors who are working all over the world, and beyond. An on-campus observatory provides first-hand opportunities for discovery. A 576-core supercomputer cluster is being used for advanced computer simulation and numerical modeling.

Physics at UMass Dartmouth—an exciting community of scholars exploring ideas, analyzing data, thinking critically to solve the problems of today and lay the groundwork for the innovations of tomorrow.
