LAW 746: Modern Prosecution Practice - fall

Prerequisite: 29 credits (Core first year); including Law 510, 511 Students may not take this course if they earned credit for LAW 620

This course prepares students to prosecute a criminal case through the lens of a modern prosecutor¿one informed by research and best practices. We will cover the standard trial practice skills of opening statements, examinations, and closing arguments. The course will also explore key case decisions beyond the courtroom based on research about procedural justice, interviewing, and the impact of the criminal legal system on public safety. Students will develop trial skills in addition to practice interviewing victims, planning an investigation, charging a case, making a plea offer, and proposing a sentence tailored to improve public safety.
