MAR 549: Analysis of Tagging Data - spring
Introduction of the principles, methods, and applications of biologging and biotelemetry technologies¿animal-borne tags used to study the movement, physiology, and behavior of organisms in their natural environments. With a primary emphasis on fisheries applications, the course situates modern tagging and tracking approaches within the broader context of fisheries science, population dynamics, and ecological research. Students will gain an understanding of conventional and emerging technologies, data collection and interpretation, and the ethical and practical considerations of field-based studies. The curriculum includes lectures, discussions of primary literature, hands-on exercises, and guest presentations from professionals in fisheries and marine ecology. Weekly sessions combine conceptual grounding in fish biology, ecology, and oceanography with technical training in data analysis and research design.
