Jim joined UMass Dartmouth in June 2021 as Interim Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and in February 2022 was appointment permanent Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management. Since joining UMass Dartmouth, Jim has led the creation of the university’s new Enrollment Management Division, which broadened the scope of the office from managing Admissions and Financial Aid to include the Registrar’s office, the Bursar’s office, and the Student Service Center. This new combined structure is designed to help the university serve our students better by aligning our communication, policies and protocols. Jim’s long years of experience at excellent public institutions have been invaluable as we identify appropriate areas for enrollment growth, continue to improve our communication and marketing efforts with prospective students and families, increase the impact of our financial aid, and work to improve student retention, particularly from the first to the second year. Jim has not only brought stable and proactive leadership during the challenges of the ongoing pandemic, but has also created a renewed sense of partnership with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs that will be critical to our long-term success in growing enrollment at UMassD.

Jim joined UMass Dartmouth last June from the University of Toledo, where he had served as Vice President for Enrollment Management since 2019. Prior to that, Jim spent six years as the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services at Boise State, a national public research university with 23,000 undergraduates.

During his time at Toledo, international student enrollment was a key component the approach to enrollment and he grew the number of agreements with agencies abroad and the number of articulation agreements between The University of Toledo and international institutions. Because of those agreements, the university experienced an increase in applications and enrollment for both new and transfer international students.

While at Boise State, Anderson led a total undergraduate enrollment growth of 6.1% over five years and authored and launched the first university-wide long-term strategic enrollment plan that saw an increase in first-time full-time enrollment, and increased Honors College enrollment and residential housing occupancy rates to capacity.

Anderson started his enrollment career at Texas Tech University, a public research university with 32,000 undergraduates. After 11 years, Jim rose to the level of Managing Director of Enrollment Planning, where he successfully redesigned the university’s admissions processing, marketing, and enrollment projection systems.

A key point of pride for Jim is the number of community partnerships he built with local organizations in Toledo and Boise. He developed partnerships with organizations like Hope Toledo and West Angeles Education and Enrichment Program. Nonprofit programs which create higher educational opportunities for African American and Latinx communities.
