Have questions about Housing Selection? Take some time to review the Housing Selection FAQs below.
Generally, a student needs the following information to complete a housing application:
- UMass Dartmouth login credentials (to log into the Housing Portal)
- No financial holds on your account
- Contact information for yourself
- Contact information for an emergency contact
- Roommate(s) you want to live with (but if you don’t have a roommate in mind, that’s okay too)
- An idea of which type of housing you are interested in
No. All selection timeslots are randomized within each class year and application date does not affect a student's assigned timeslot. Students must meet the published application deadlines to receive a priority timeslot. Students that submit their housing application after the priority deadline date will still receive a timeslot, however it will not be as good of a time compared to those that completed their application prior to the deadline.
Students that believe they need a housing accommodation or adjustment can find more information on the steps to request a housing accommodation here.
All students must submit a housing application and choose a specialty housing option within the application to be considered for that community. Students will need to submit their application and form their groups on the housing portal before midnight on the priority deadline. That date is published in all communication to students and on the housing portal.
Honors:
Located in Hickory on the 3rd and 4th floor. This housing is for all sophomore, junior and senior students currently in the Honors program. Non honor students are not permitted to live in honors housing even with an honors student.
Quiet Housing:
Quiet housing for sophomore students will be located in Oak Glen in a small section determined by the number of applications. Quiet housing for juniors and seniors will be located on Hickory Hall on the 2nd floor. Students in Quiet housing commit to fostering a quiet living environment for all those parts of quiet housing.
Health Careers:
This is for sophomore students that will be going into the health care career. This housing will be in Oak Glen and specific suites will be determined by the number of applications.
Open Housing:
This housing is for those students that want to live with someone regardless of gender identity. Students that wish to participate in open housing must have a full group for the type of housing that they are going for i.e. 4 people for a 4 person apartment, 8 people for an 8 person suite. If any resident from the group moves out for any reason, the remaining residents of the group must identify a new roommate who agrees to move into the vacant space(s) within five business days. If this cannot or does not happen, the University will take one of the following steps: 1. place a new resident into the open space(s), if that person is amenable to living in a coed setting. An e-mail notification stating that a new resident has been assigned will be sent to the remaining residents of the unit. 2. relocate all remaining residents to locations designated on the binary, and re-populate the space with new residents.
8 Person Suites:
There will be a limited number of Oak Glen suites designated for students that have 8 people to select into. You must have a full group of 8 in order to participate in 8 person suite selection. If you have less than 8 you will not be able to participate. All participants must submit a housing application and be part of the roommate group before midnight on March 27th.
During the housing application process you can create a group name and a group password for your group. The group name is viewable by housing staff, so please keep it appropriate. You will give the group name and password to the members of your group to join. They are only able to join through the housing application, so they must have no holds on their account in order to join the roommate group.
If you don’t have a roommate in mind, you can search for roommates in the housing portal and see how you match compatibility with others. You are not required to have a roommate to go through housing selection and can go through as an individual.
There are a limited number of enhanced singles in Pine Dale that are available to students that wish to have a single. The Woodland apartments are all single bedroom but are 4 and 2 bedroom apartments. There are a limited number of 2 bedroom apartments in the woodlands and no student gets an entire apartment assigned just to themselves. We encourage students that are looking for a 2 bedroom apartment to have a back up plan in case one is not available during their timeslot.
Transfer students cannot join your group and must go through the new student application process. Transfer students that are over 21 can email our office and if you have a space available with your room/suite/apartment we will do our best to place them into that space. Spaces cannot be held for students at any time in the selection process or afterwards. Off campus students can join your group as long as they have no financial holds and fill out a housing application. You will want to ensure that they have been given the group name and password to join your group.
Students will receive an email notification to their UMass Dartmouth email address letting them know their timeslot. They will also be able to see when their timeslot is on their housing portal.
You will want to use the earliest timeslot available to your group. That person does not have to be the group leader in order to assign your group to a space.
Your timeslot is when room selection opens for you. You are able to go into the housing portal and select a space for yourself or group anytime after your timeslot.
Only students that are juniors or seniors (unless part of the honors program) are eligible for the apartments. If you are a junior or senior and can’t be pulled in, please contact the housing office for assistance.
