Recent events in managing the COVID-19 emergency have brought many concerns and questions for students about academic continuity. The University academic staff want to assure you that we are committed to continue to support your academic success.
To assist students as UMass Dartmouth moves instruction to online formats, student support services will be fully available through phone, email communications and Zoom, as necessary. The following summaries inform students of how they may access academic services. Registration & Financial Services
The University Enrollment Center (UEC) will continue to assist students with general questions regarding financial aid, payments and registration for summer and fall terms as well as provide necessary services via online until further notice.
In preparation for the fall 2020 course registration, students are encouraged to review their COIN accounts to address any holds, other than advising, that may impede registration. Students may review the COIN tutorial video for a refresher on how to register for classes.
Bill payments may be made through your COIN account. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your registration or bill payments, please email the University Enrollment Center: email@example.com.

Financial Aid & Student Employment (FAS/SE) will continue to provide students with all necessary services via in-person meetings, email, and phone. We remind students that they are able to complete many of their transactions through their COIN account, including review of their financial aid awards, completing verification, and/or uploading required documents. To assist students remotely, FAS/SE will accept password protected documents through email, which includes both financial aid documents and student employment forms. Students may reach out to their dedicated counselor for assistance with this process: counselor contact information.
In preparation for fall registration, FAS/SE strongly encourages students to review their balance/financial aid information and resolve their balances or complete any missing forms before their assigned registration date. FAFSA Labs will continue to be available. Contact your dedicated counselor to set up a meeting time via Zoom or phone. Fall 2020 undergraduate and graduate course registration will begin on Monday, April 6. Please review your enrollment appointment date and advisor information in COIN and reach out to your advisor by email prior to your registration date.

Remember that hold(s) on your account may prevent you from registering for the fall semester. It is critical that you review and resolve all holds in COIN prior to your registration date. Students are encouraged to apply early for loan options to resolve outstanding balances. Holds may only be removed once a loan utilized for an outstanding balance is placed on a student's COIN account. As a reminder, loan processing can take up to 5-7 business days, which can increase during busy periods. Loan options may be found on the UMassD Financial Aid Services website.
Once you have registered for classes, failure to attend class(es) does not constitute a withdrawal from the University and does not excuse you from your financial obligations. If you stop attending or abandon your classes without officially withdrawing, you will remain on all class rosters until you withdraw from your courses in COIN or officially withdraw from the University or until the end of the semester, at which point you will be graded accordingly. If you will not be returning for the fall semester, you must submit a Student Leave of Absence/Withdrawal Form, available at Registrar: Student Forms to request a leave of absence or to officially withdraw from the University.
The withdrawal deadline for most spring 2020 courses is Friday, April 29 by 11:59 p.m. in COIN. This deadline is strictly enforced. Refer to the Online & Continuing Education Academic Calendar for withdrawal/refund dates in online, accelerated, seven-week or unique session courses as dates may vary.
The Bursar’s Office will continue to operate Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The Bursar’s Office window will be open Tuesday-Friday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. The best way to reach us:

Please take this opportunity to sign up for direct deposit so that future refunds will be automatically deposited into your bank account. All students who wish to enroll for direct deposits can log into COIN via the myUMassD portal to designate the bank account into which their refund will be deposited. A job aid to assist with the process can be found at COIN for Students. UMassD encourages all students and families to remit payment online. Electronic check payments processed through COIN do not incur any fees.

The Office of Graduate Studies will provide services to all current graduate students via electronic communication until further notice. Please send all inquiries to APGradStudies@umassd.edu or call 508-999-8012, and Graduate Studies staff will get back to you as soon as possible.
If you are currently employed as a Teaching Assistant, Studio Assistant, Clinical Assistant or Graduate Assistant, please email your immediate supervisor or the chair of your department to find out the best way to continue to serve in that capacity. Research Assistants who have questions about working remotely or accessing labs or other UMass Dartmouth facilities should contact their faculty supervisors immediately. At the request of their supervisors, lab access can be made available to students engaged in on-going research.
Graduate students who are planning to defend their thesis or dissertation while the University is in online delivery mode should work with their primary thesis/dissertation advisor and committee members to make arrangements to defend via Zoom or other similar tools. To maximize virtual participation, please include the Zoom URL on the UMassD Announce notice that should be posted at least two weeks in advance of the defense date.

The Department of Online Continuing Education (OCE) will continue to operate Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All services and communication will be provided through email, phone, and video chat communication using Zoom. The Advising, Support and Planning Office will deliver advising services to students reporting to ASAP online until further notice.
In preparation for fall registration, students will be able to meet remotely with their academic advisor to plan fall courses. (If unsure of assigned advisor, please check COIN). Please use the link in the advisor’s staff profile to schedule an advising appointment. Please indicate the preferred method of meeting when making an appointment (email, telephone or ZOOM [video chat, download free link from the app store using your UMassD email account]). The academic advisor will call, email, or video chat using ZOOM (depending on your choice of communication) at the time of the virtual appointment. Advisors will have the ability to lift your academic advising hold remotely, thus allowing registration for fall courses on the appointed registration date (provided there are no additional registration holds).

For CAS students and other students utilizing the STAR Center, there will be no interruption to the services provided by professional advisors. The College of Nursing & Health Sciences student support services team will continue to support students’ success remotely. Remote support will include phone calls, text messages, emails, and the use of Zoom to schedule and conduct individual meetings with students.
The Nursing & Health Sciences service team is available to help with the following:
- Responding to requests for information on college and university policies and deadlines
- Assistance with scholarships applications including the DNS scholarship
- Request for materials (i.e., books, etc.)
- Referrals to on and off campus resources (e.g., counseling, tutoring, housing, Bursar’s Office, enrollment, etc.)
- Monitoring academic progress to include 5- and 10-week progress reports for first-year nursing students
- Provide mentoring opportunities to at-risk students
- Operate the Student Nurse Leadership Academy and Wingman experience
In regard to academic progress reports for first-year nursing students, regardless of the current situation, we will continue to follow up and follow through with students who are in academic distress and provide as much support as we can. In addition, student leaders will continue to check in with their groups via email to ensure that first-year nursing students are comfortable with navigating online classes and resources. Student leaders will make themselves available to answer any questions or concerns and will forward them to us, as needed.
We are taking steps to ensure that all students continue to be supported as this situation continues to unfold. Engineering Student Support Services/ES3 is available to support students throughout this semester. We are virtually available during our regular hours, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Students and faculty can contact ES3 by phone or email, and face-to-face meetings are available via Zoom. You can make schedule a virtual appointment with ES3. ES3 has also put together a document which provides some additional relevant information. It is updated as needed, so check the website often.
Registration for summer classes is open. Connect with your faculty advisor via email about whether you should consider a summer class. If you are looking to take a summer course at another community college or university, you need to submit a Prior Approval Form to ensure the course you are planning on taking is equivalent to the UMassD course. ES3 can assist with this process.
Registration for fall classes will begin in April. Your enrollment appointment is posted in COIN and is based on your earned (not attempted) credits. Prior to your enrollment date, you should make arrangements to connect (virtually) with your faculty advisor to review your course plans for fall and have the advising hold removed. You should also check COIN for any other holds you may have. Reach out to ES3 if you have questions. International Student & Study Abroad Services
International Student and Scholar Center (ISSC) as well as International Programs Office (IPO) will continue to operate Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (ISSC) and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (IPO). The Multiliteracy and Communication Center will offer online-only tutoring appointments. All online tutoring sessions are conducted synchronously. This means that you can meet with your tutor in "real time" in a manner similar to a face-to-face session.

The Outreach Counselor (OC) will contact all clients of the Academic Resource Center (ARC) to inform them that all contact/meetings will transpire through email and phone meetings. The OC will ensure all ARC clients’ needs will be met. The Outreach Counselor will stay in contact with all ARC clients on a regular basis to discuss academics, financial aid concerns, and any other issues that students experience.

The WRC will operate exclusively online via two electronic platforms, TutorTrac and email, using two tutoring strategies: asynchronous and synchronous tutoring.
Asynchronous tutoring will function as it normally is via email with a 48-hour response time for feedback. A link for this asynchronous tutoring will be provided on the WRC website.
Synchronous tutoring (or online LIVE tutoring) will function via TutorTrac for booking the appointment and Zoom for formal tutoring.

The STEM Learning Lab will offer online tutoring beginning March 23, 2020. The hours of online tutoring will be Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
