BIO 571: Marine Microbiology - spring
General Education requirement: Natural Sci Tech/Oral Skills
Diversity and taxonomy, activities, and the roles of microorganisms in the marine environment. Emphasis will be placed on bacteria, archaea, and viruses. Roles of microbes in marine biogeochemical cycles and food webs, and the influence of environmental parameters on microbial growth and activities will be discussed. In the laboratory, students will learn methods on molecular characterization, enumeration, cultivation, and experimentation in the field.
