BLS 218: Slavery, Resistance, and UGRR - spring

Exploration of slavery, resistance, and Underground Railroad history through specialized readings, lectures, and images. Enslavement of human beings in the Americas began long before 1619, and efforts to resist andundermine slave trade systems date to the earliest European voyages of colonization. This introductory course explores four centuries of action taken by people of African and Native American descent to resist or escape enslavement, and to sabotage legal slaveholding in the United States, Spanish Florida, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Bolivia, Mexico, and Canada.
