GLC 360: Linguistics as Basis for LLMs - spring

Examination of the components and structures of language, and the relationships among language, thought, and culture, by focusing on various scientific and human-interest aspects of linguistics. Topics include language and meaning, the processing of language, and standard versus nonstandard varieties of language. Class conducted through both seminar-like and interactive class discussions and lectures. The course enables students to make connections between linguistics and the language-related aspects of Artificial Intelligence topics such as deep learning and Large Language Models. Appropriate for GLC, Computer Science, and Humanities students, enabling all to engage in more profound critical analysis in their respective fields.
