MUS 317: Curriculum Design in Mus Edu - spring

Prerequisite: Music Majors, and MUS 316 or instructor permission

General Education requirement: Cultural & Artistic Literacy

Third of a four-course sequence presenting foundational concepts/skills in music education needed for an initial music teaching license in Massachusetts. Students examine and synthesize current, evidence-based approaches to inclusive and accessible curriculum development, differentiation, and assessment to expand curriculum literacy and create engaging units of study. Psychological, sociological, and philosophical aspects of music education will be studied so students can design experiences that extend beyond content and are deeply rooted in community, culturally sustaining, anti-racist practices, and socially/emotionally responsive. Twenty hours of observation in school-based music education are required. Open to music majors or by instructor permission.
