Examination of various quality, safety, legal, and ethical factors that influence the US health care system. The focus is on the scope of health care delivery, financing, and regulation of the health care system and moving the patient through the continuum of health care. Selected mechanisms such as policy formulation, cost effectiveness analysis, accreditation, and quality assurance programs that shape the health care environment are examined.

Joyce H. Cadorette, PhD, RN, CAPA, CPAN is an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She has over 20 years of nursing experience in both patient care and leadership. She holds two certifications one as a Certified Ambulatory Post Anesthesia Nurse (CAPA) and another as a Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CPAN). Her program of research focuses nursing workforce development, recruitment and retention of nurses, transition to practice for new to practice registered nurses, and identifying gaps between academia and practice. Her goal is to help build and strengthen the nursing workforce.
