Discussion of concepts associated with leadership and organizational skills pertaining to the role of the professional nurse in the healthcare environment. Knowledge and skills associated with functioning as a leader of care as well as a member of the healthcare team are identified, including strategies to enhance personal and professional effectiveness. Contemporary healthcare issues are explored: quality and patient safety and role of the nurse as leader influencing improved patient outcomes individually and in teams. Course development guided by the AACN (2021) Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice and ANA (2021) Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice.
This is the DNP introduction to residency course designed to support development of the DNP scholarly project and introduce the DNP residency experience. The course focuses on identifying a project focus, conducting a comprehensive literature review, and critically appraising evidence using established evidence-based practice rating systems to inform project development. Students will identify and apply an appropriate theoretical or conceptual framework to guide the development of their scholarly project. During the residency component, students will complete a site-based needs assessment and synthesize current evidence to support problem identification and project planning. Course development is guided by the AACN (2021) Essentials, the ANA Code of Ethics (2025), the NONPF Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies (2022), the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Competencies (2016), and the APNA Scope and Standards of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Practice (2022)

This practicum lays the foundation for the development of collaborative and inter-professional knowledge, skills and attitudes. Course development was guided by the AACN (2006) Essentials for DNP Education.
Second course designed to support development of the DNP scholarly project through application of translational research science principles. Course content focuses on implementation of methodologies, data collection and analysis, interpretation of outcomes, and evaluation of project impact. Students will examine outcome implications, sustainability considerations, and strategies for scholarly dissemination
