Telephone/Voicemail Information

All requests for telephone services must be approved by the appropriate department head.

Request a telephone number or telephone move, add, change or disconnect

Please send an email to telecom@umassd.edu with the following information:

  1. reason for request
  2. name of person
  3. extension (if assigned)
  4. location of telephone: building and room number
  5. jack number (the number on the label of the phone outlet)
  6. if move: name and extension, room and jack number of new location
  7. telephone model (ex. 6408D)
  8. class of restriction (see class of restriction)
  9. voicemail: yes or no
  10. speed type for billing purposes

     

Request for a new or change in class of restriction (COR)

Please send an email to telecom@umassd.edu with the following information:

  1. reason for request
  2. name of the person requesting COR change
  3. department name
  4. extension number
  5. new class of restriction requested (if international access: department head approval required)

Voicemail information

You can access your voicemail, the Audix system, from any phone either on or off campus. When on campus, dial x5002; from off campus, dial 508.910.5002. (Please note that this is a 910 and not a 999 number).

Each extension on campus has a header name and voicemail greeting associated with it, and you must set these for your extension. Your header name is the name that will be heard by anyone who reaches your voice mailbox or anyone who receives a voicemail message from you.

Setting your password

Each default voicemail password is 2244; however, you will be prompted to change this when you log in for the first time.

Connect to Audix by dialing x5002 or 508.910.5002 if you are off campus. When prompted, enter your phone extension and default password; then, you will be prompted to enter a new password. This password must be between 5 and 15 numbers in length. Once you have entered your new password, press # to confirm.

Creating a new password

Connect to Audix by dialing x5002 or 508.910.5002 if you are off campus.

  • Enter your extension, then press #
  • Enter your password, then press #
  • Press 5 to review a list of options (please note that 5 will not be stated as an option)
  • Press 4 to change your password
  • Select a password that is between 5 and 15 digits, then press #
  • Re-enter your password, then press #
  • Your password has been reset

Changing your header name

Connect to Audix by dialing x5002 or 508.910.5002 if you are off campus.

  • Enter your extension, then press #
  • Enter your password, then press #
  • Press 5 to review a list of options (please note that 5 will not be stated as an option)
  • Press 5 again to reset your header name
  • Press 1 and then record your name
  • Press 1 again to stop the recording
  • Press # to approve

Changing your voicemail message

Connect to Audix by dialing x5002 or 508.910.5002 if you are off campus

  • Enter your extension, then press #
  • Enter your password, then press #
  • Press 3 to change your voicemail greeting
  • Press 1 to create a new greeting
  • Enter a greeting number (1-9) and wait for the tone, then create your greeting
  • Press 1 to stop recording when you’re finished
  • Press 2 followed by 3 to review the greeting
  • Press *D to re-record the greeting
  • Press # to approve the recording
  • Press 1 to activate your new greeting for all calls

Request for multiple voice mailboxes on a single extension

Each department is responsible for recording the primary greeting, and individuals are responsible for recording their own mailbox greeting.  Departments should periodically review the greeting and update Telecom with any changes.

Please send an email to telecom@umassd.edu with the following information:

  1. names of persons who will be assigned mailboxes
  2. telephone number that will be assigned mailboxes
  3. department name
  4. location: building and room number
  5. jack number (the number on the label of the phone outlet)
  6. class of restriction (see class of restriction)

Request for a fax machine move, add, change or disconnect

Please note that new machines must be on site and in place before line can be installed.

Please send an email to telecom@umassd.edu with the following information:

  1. reason for request
  2. existing fax number, or specify if new number is needed
  3. department name
  4. location: building and room number
  5. if move: new location: building and room number
  6. jack number (the number on the label of the outlet)

Report telephone line issues

Please send an email to telecom@umassd.edu with the following information:

  1. reason for report
  2. name of person
  3. department name
  4. extension number
  5. location: building and room number
  6. jack number (the number on the label of the phone outlet)

Request for Microcall access

A Microcall account gives you access to create and run reports that will allow you to view all calls made to and from the phone numbers within your department. This allows you to compute the cost of calls and to monitor for any suspicious telephone activity.

Please note that access to Microcall is limited to individuals with budgetary responsibility or their designees and requires Department Head authorization.

Once you have your account, reports can be accessed at http://microcall.umassd.edu/microcall
