International Programs Office's glossary of terms

UMass Dartmouth sponsored programs

Those credit or non-credit programs organized by university staff and/or faculty, with or without the logistical services of third party consultants, agents, or providers. Also those offered by an Exchange Partner University.

UMass Dartmouth approved programs

Those provided by Program Provider organizations that have been vetted and approved by the International Programs Office (see Providers below).

Faculty-led programs

Those led by full or part-time faculty or staff employed by the university at the time of the program. In addition to UMass Dartmouth students, students of other colleges and/or other members of the public may sometimes participate. In all cases, university policies apply that govern responsibilities, relationships and expectations of the various members of the UMass Dartmouth community as laid out in the Faculty Handbook, Student Handbook, and official Catalogues.

Study Abroad courses

UMass Dartmouth courses offered abroad that carry UMass Dartmouth credit and are governed by standard university grading policies.

Project(s) abroad

Non-credit activities organized and led by faculty, staff or students, that are promoted by the university or department or employee to and for UMass Dartmouth students and/or that involve the use of university funding, equipment, or property.

Program providers

Independent organizations, profit or non-profit, that promote, organize and deliver study abroad programs for students from many universities. Many offer custom programs and are available to support faculty-led programs. Approved Program Providers hold affiliation agreements with UMass Dartmouth and may cooperate with the university in promotion of programs to UMass Dartmouth students. Other providers hold agreements with other UMass campuses and are also considered to be vetted and approved for UMass Dartmouth students. Program Providers without such agreements must be referred by credible parties as having good quality academic and student support services before IPO will approve participation in their programs for UMass Dartmouth students.

University Partners or Exchange Partners

Universities with which UMass Dartmouth has written Agreements of Cooperation or Memorandums of Understanding.
