Corsair cheerleaders bring home fourth NCA title in nine years

The UMass Dartmouth cheerleaders have done it again, capturing the 2008 National Cheerleading Association's All-Girl Division II Championship.  Led by Coach Scott Bouchard (far right), the Corsairs captured their latest NCA crown with a narrow victory over second-place Slippery Rock College.  Jon Garcia captured his third NCAA Division III National Championship

NCAA Division III National Championship Update: At Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio,UMass Dartmouth's  Jon Garcia captured his third NCAA Division III national championsihp  Saturday afternoon, winning the 55-meter hurdle national finals with a time of 7.46 seconds.  Garcia earned his sixth All-America honor to tie for the most by any athlete in the history of UMass Dartmouth  and he is the first to win three national championships.  Diver Tom Egan and distance runner James White were both 6-time All Americas with two national titles each.  Garcia now holds the highest honors at UMass Dartmouth with six All-Americas and three national titles. Garcia received his national championship trophy from UMass Dartmouth indoor track and field coach Jon Hird. Garcia has also been named NCAA Division III New England Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He is one of eight regional award winners in the country.


Equestrian rider qualifies for nationals championships, May 8-11

UMass Dartmouth's Rebecca Viera finished first in Walk Trot Canter at last Saturday's  Zone Finals held at Mount Holyoke College and qualified for the International Horse Show Association's (IHSA) National Championhips.  Viera will travel to the the IHSA 2008 Nationals to be held May 8-11 at the Los Angeles (CA) Equestrian Center to compete against the top collegiate equestrian riders in the nation.
