Campus Revenue
UMass Dartmouth's operating budget is primarily supported by tuition and fees and state appropriations. Tuition and fees include both mandatory and non-mandatory charges, with mandatory fees requiring approval by the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees.
State appropriations are determined through the Commonwealth's annual budget process and represent a significant source of university revenue. Because state funding levels are not finalized until late in the legislative cycle, the amount available to the University can remain uncertain until close to the start of the fiscal year. Once approved, the UMass President's Office allocates state funding among the five campuses based on systemwide strategic priorities.
To support budget planning and executive decision-making, the University develops revenue forecasts that project key operating revenue sources over a multi-year period. These forecasts provide a framework for aligning available resources with institutional priorities and strategic objectives.
