NUR 409: Leadership in Nursing - fall

Prerequisite: RN Standing

General Education requirement: 5A & 5B

Discussion of concepts associated with leadership and organizational skills pertaining to the role of the professional nurse in the healthcare environment. Knowledge and skills associated with functioning as a leader of care as well as a member of the healthcare team are identified, including strategies to enhance personal and professional effectiveness. Contemporary healthcare issues are explored: quality and patient safety and role of the nurse as leader influencing improved patient outcomes individually and in teams. Course development guided by the AACN (2021) Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice and ANA (2021) Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice.
