Courses

Survey of introductory macroeconomics with focus on economic growth, unemployment, and inflation. Topics covered include national income accounting, inflation, unemployment, fiscal policy, money, the banking system, and monetary policy. Balance of payments and currency exchange rate issues are analyzed. Cross-listed as PST 232

Survey of introductory macroeconomics with focus on economic growth, unemployment, and inflation. Topics covered include national income accounting, inflation, unemployment, fiscal policy, money, the banking system, and monetary policy. Examines the most applicable principles of micro and macro-economics for the application of economic theory for the manager. Topics include optimization techniques applied to consumer choice firm behavior, pricing and the study of the market structure. Both ethical and international issues are addressed.

How governments at the federal, state and local levels cope with threats to the public's health, such as AIDS, lead poisoning, toxic waste, tuberculosis. We will evaluate the effectiveness of government interventions, identify ethical and political pitfalls of present strategies and assess the prospects for eradicating our most pressing health problems.

Introduction to the concepts surrounding environmental law. Students explore the reasons, development, and implementation of environmental laws. Areas of focus include the following: using the law to consider environmental impacts before taking action; using the law to protect water and air quality; the law of land use; and global applications of legal frameworks to deal with large scale environmental problems like climate change.

Study under the supervision of a faculty member in an area covered in a regular course not currently being offered. Conditions and hours to be arranged.
