for student success
UMass Dartmouth is committed to collaborative, inclusive programs and resources that foster personal, academic, and career growth for all undergraduates. Led by faculty and staff, our student success initiatives use assessment and evidence-based strategies to support students from application through graduation.

UMassD Ready Program
A five-day transition program for incoming first-generation UMass Dartmouth students. Participants get a jump on the semester, meet classmates, work with faculty, and earn a free college credit before fall semester begins.
Math Placement Assessments (ALEKS)
UMass Dartmouth’s math placement assessment determines the best-fit math course for each student. Students can study and retake ALEKS through our Summer Bridge Program to improve their scores and placement. ALEKS is proven to increase course success.
Summer Bridge Program
This summer program builds students’ math and chemistry skills before beginning their first year. The content is tailored by major, covering the specific skills that students will use in their curriculum.
First-year experience seminars
These first-semester courses ease the transition from high school to college, give space for major and career exploration, and engage students to build community in a supportive environment attuned to their college or major.
Early action surveys
First-year student check-ins identify and assist with adjustment struggles. Advisors, faculty, tutoring centers, the Counseling Center, and the Office of Student Accessibility follow up with students to guide them through challenges
Career readiness
Career development at UMassD isn't a single office or event; it's woven through the curriculum and campus life alike, so students build career skills continuously as a natural part of their college experience.
Peer mentoring
Programs like Corsair Navigators and Connected Futures pair students with trained peers, who can relate to the experiences and challenges mentees encounter.
Academic Improvement Map (AIM)
AIM is a Canvas site where students on Academic Alert/Caution can work with advisors to improve their GPA and return to good standing through targeted activities and holistic advising. The program is part of a campus-wide shift from a punitive approach to academic standing toward a supportive one.
Tutoring and supplemental instruction
From placement assessments to first-year curriculum to tutoring and supplemental instruction, we meet students where they are to support them through every stage of their degree.
Slate for Student Success (S4SS) Advising Network
S4SS is a platform that centralizes student data so advisors can offer timely, personalized support. It compiles information in one place accessible to advisors and student affairs, ensuring that students receive targeted and accurate outreach.
Financial literacy
Through embedded coursework, workshops, and webinars, our partnership with Kindros helps students build real-world financial skills they'll use long after graduation.
Student Success hub
Through the duration of a student's time at UMass Dartmouth, Student Success is the university's student-facing site for advising, academic resources, and support. This central hub connects students to the different department according to their class year.
Next-level support
As we expand this work, UMass Dartmouth has partnered with the National Institute for Student Success (NISS) to identify and reduce risk of attrition through target micro and macro interventions that support students from matriculation to graduation. NISS and UMass Dartmouth are collaborating to improve student support - from financial aid and academic advising to education resources and opportunities.
