Make an Appointment

At the Writing & Multiliteracy Center, we have three types of appointments available: in person, synchronous online, and asynchronous online. Synchronous means that you will meet with a tutor "live" and have the ability to speak with them via video, audio, and/or text chat.

We recommend booking at least twenty-four hours in advance, but you can schedule an appointment up to 10 minutes before the start time. Appointments can be made for a half hour or a full hour.

Scheduling an In-Person Appointment

In-person appointments can be scheduled by speaking to a member of our staff in the Scholarly Commons when we're open.

You can also book an in-person session via our scheduling software. You will need to use your UMassD credentials to log in.

Scheduling and Accessing a Synchronous Online Appointment

Online appointments happen in real-time. You can schedule an online appointment by dropping by the Scholarly Commons and requesting an online session, or by booking using our scheduler. You will need to be logged in to our scheduler in order to meet with your tutor online.

Choose "Online" when you create your appointment, and you'll be set up for your session.

eTutoring: Asynchronous Feedback

Receive written comments by scheduling an eTutoring session. Book an asynchronous appointment by logging in to our scheduler and selecting "eTutoring" when creating your appointment. You must upload your draft as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx) or PDF to schedule the appointment. You'll receive written feedback from a WMC tutor at the end of the scheduled time.

Canceling and Missed Appointments

Appointments can be modified or canceled by speaking to a member of staff in the Scholarly Commons or by logging in to the scheduler. Clicking on your appointment will open a pop-up window with a "cancel appointment" button at the bottom right.

Because last-minute cancellations prevent others from scheduling this time with a tutor, you will be unable to cancel your appointment within 15 minutes of the appointment's starting time. If a last-minute emergency prevents you from attending an appointment, please contact the WMC directly by emailing WMC.Info@umassd.edu

If you fail to show up for your meeting, or arrive more than 15 minutes late, your appointment will be marked as a "no-show." Three "no-shows" will result in an inability to access the scheduler, and your account will be deactivated. If your account is deactivated, you must contact WMC.Info@umassd.edu to initiate a conversation about reactivating your account.
