I. Policy statement

University students are responsible for the actions of their guests while on campus grounds and at campus programs.

II. Purpose

In order for the University to be a community in which all members can pursue their goals and interests in a safe environment, it is important that all community members act in accordance with established University policies and take responsibility not only for their own actions, but for the actions of their guests as well.

Ill. Definitions

Guests are individuals from outside the campus community who are invited to the campus by a member of the campus community. For a definition of a guest as defined by Housing and Residential Education, please refer to Housing and Residential Educations Terms and Conditions.

A Host is a member of the University community that invites a guest to campus. Hosts are responsible for the actions of their guests at all times while they are on campus. Hosts who sponsor gatherings that violate the University's alcohol and other drug policy are subject to the conduct process under the host policy

IV. Procedures

Hosts will be held accountable for the actions of their guests, including damages made to University property or the property of others. Guests should be made aware of relevant University policies by the host. The University reserves the right to require a guest to vacate the residential and/or campus premises for non-compliance with University policy. The Department of Public Safety may issue a "No Trespass" order to guests who do not comply with University policy. This means that the guest may not be on University property until further notice. A guest who violates a "trespass order" may be subject to arrest by the Department of Public Safety.

V. Responsibility

The Student Affairs Office assumes responsibility for communicating this policy and for adjudicating alleged violations of the policy either via the campus Code of Student Conduct process or via referral to the Department of Public Safety.
