Make an Appointment

At the Writing & Multiliteracy Center, we have three types of appointments available: in person, synchronous online, and asynchronous online. Synchronous means that you will meet with a tutor "live" and have the ability to speak with them via video, audio, and/or text chat.

We recommend booking at least twenty-four hours in advance, but you can schedule an appointment up to 10 minutes before the start time. Appointments can be made for a half hour or a full hour.

Scheduling an In-Person Appointment

In-person appointments can be scheduled by speaking to a member of our staff at the Welcome Desk in the Scholarly Commons when we're open.

You can also book an in-person session via our scheduling software. You will need to use your UMassD credentials to log in.

Scheduling and Accessing a Synchronous Online Appointment

Online appointments happen in real-time. You can schedule an online appointment by dropping by the Scholarly Commons and requesting an online session, or by booking using our scheduler. You will need to be logged in to our scheduler in order to meet with your tutor online.

Choose "Online" when you create your appointment, and you'll be set up for your session.

Asynchronous Feedback

Receive written comments by scheduling an asynchronous session. For the Fall 2025 semester, all asynchronous appointments will be conducted through Brainfuse. Access Brainfuse through Canvas for one of your courses, and you'll be taken to the Brainfuse page. From there, you can submit your draft to the Brainfuse Writing Lab. You'll upload a file and receive feedback, usually within 24 hours.

Canceling and Missed Appointments

Appointments can be modified or canceled by speaking to a member of staff in the Scholarly Commons or by logging in to the scheduler

If you fail to show up for your meeting, your appointment will be marked as a "no-show." Five "no-shows" will result in an inability to access the scheduler, and your account will be deactivated. If your account is deactivated, you must contact WMC.Info@umassd.edu to initiate a conversation about reactivating your account.
