Faculty Senate

About

Faculty have primary responsibility for curriculum, subject matter, and methods of instruction; policies regarding research, admissions, libraries, and aspects of student life which relate to the educational process; articulation of requirements for degrees and certificates, determination of when requirements have been met, and recommendation of candidates for degrees to the Chancellor and President; and matters of faculty status, such as appointments, reappointments, promotions, and tenure.

Therefore, the Faculty Senate is concerned with academic matters and matters relating to the intellectual life of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

The Faculty Senate is governed by the Faculty Senate Constitution (PDF),  which was ratified in 2014 and amended in 2017, and the Faculty Senate By-Laws (PDF), which were amended in May 2025.

Mission

To ensure faculty at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth have a voice in decision-making as well as a role in shaping policy and other matters related to the academic life of the faculty
