Fine Arts Minor - General

18 Credits

Qualified students may complete a minor within the Department of Fine Arts selecting courses from painting, printmaking, drawing and sculpture. The minor consists of 18 credits. To declare a minor, students must be a degree candidate who has earned at least 54 credits, with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.000 and a minimum 2.500 grade point average in their major. Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 in all minor classes in order to proceed in the minor.  A review of progress in the Fine Art General minor will transpire during scheduled Fine Art junior reviews in either the 2D or 3D area, wherever the majority of the coursework has been completed.

Students select 12 credits (4 courses) from the 200-level studio course list and then 6 credits (2 courses) from the 300-level course list.

Take at least 12 credits from the following list:

  • FIA 221 - Figure Drawing I
  • FIA 222 - Figure Drawing II
  • FIA 223 - Nature Drawing I
  • FIA 224 - Nature Drawing II
  • FIA 225 - Object Drawing
  • FIA 241 - Introduction to Painting I
  • FIA 242 - Introduction to Painting II
  • FIA 243 - Watercolor
  • FIA 244 - Intro to Painting/Mixed Media

Take at least 6 credits from the following list:

Note:  Established prerequisites for 300-level classes will be applied.  Passing the Junior Review (in the area of the majority of the coursework) will be necessary to complet the Fine Art General minor.

  • FIA 3XX Upper-level independent study/printmaking - 3-6 credits
  • FIA 321 - Figure Drawing III 3 credits
  • FIA 322 - Figure Drawing IV 3 credits
  • FIA 341 - Painting III 6; may be taken for 3 credits by non-majors credits
  • FIA 342 - Painting IV 3 credits
  • FIA 391 - Sculpture III 6; may be taken for 3 credits by non-majors credits
  • FIA 391-01 Sculpture and Technique - 3 credits
  • FIA 391-02 Sculpture III: Thematic Development One - 3 credits
  • FIA 392 - Sculpture IV 3 credits
