UMass Dartmouth students launch research project to recenter African and Indigenous Revolutionary-era stories.
MassHumanities-funded “Forgotten Patriots” examines America’s 250th anniversary through overlooked stories of those who helped create the nation. The New England Region of the Society of First African Families of English America (SOFAFEA), has received a $20,000 MassHumanities Expand Massachusetts Stories-Promises of the Revolution grant to support “Forgotten Patriots: Art and Literature in the Legacy of the Revolution.”
This student-centered humanities project explores the lives of legacies of African, Afro-Indigenous, Indigenous, and Wampanoag patriots whose Revolutionary-era service has often been omitted from mainstream historical narratives. Participating students include Cassy De Pina, Janie Vicente Correia, and Nora Mohamed.
